Swami Chidananda Puri’s visit to Singapore (Mar 1 to 5, 2017) – Synopsis of the topics that will be covered in his discourses in Singapore:
1. Upanishads – an introduction and the relevance of its teachings in today’s world – Discourse in English
This will cover a generic introduction to Upanishads, as a part of Vedas, how they are structured and distributed as works of literature and treasures of knowledge, and how a seeker should approach to understand them. Swami will provide an overview of the ten most important Upanishads and the respective themes handled by them, and get into the relevance of their teachings in todays world. The discourse is expected to lay a strong foundation in the minds of listeners that will help to have an enlightened approach to life, it’s purpose and meaning. This will also be a logical start to those who would want to deep dive into Upanishads and principles of Sanathana Dharma.
2. “Hindu Dharmavum Kshethra Samskaaravum” (The Hindu Dharma and the temple culture) – Discourse in Malayalam.
In this discourse, Swami will explain the Hindu Dharma, as the “Dharma” and not a “Religion” and the relevance of temples and associated culture as part of it. This will highlight what temples are meant to be, and not meant to be. He will cover the various styles of temple worship, the history and principles behind them, with a special emphasis on the temple culture of the state Kerala, India. This will provide the listeners insights into temples as source of energy and power, and how one should practice the worship and related rituals to benefit from this energy source.
